After a tragic direct hit by a category 4 hurricane, many Florida communities now face weeks if not months of cleanup. A Missouri task force is now headed to the Sunshine State to provide relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ian.

The Boone County Fire Protection District shared the news on their Facebook page today that Missouri Task Force 1 is now headed to the Florida communities of Fort Myers and others that suffered massive damage from Hurricane Ian.

As announced in their press release:

MO-TF1 is deploying as a Type III task force to Orlando, Florida to assist with search and rescue operations in the Hurricane Ian impact area. The task force is deploying with a total of 47 people and the full equipment cache. This deployment will also carry significant swift water rescue capabilities as well as two live find and two human remains detection canines.

The Missouri teams will play a vital role in rescue and recovery efforts as the death toll from Hurricane Ian sadly continues to rise. According to the Weather Channel, at least 30 are now confirmed dead as of Saturday, October 1, 2022.
