One of the most vivid memories I have from my high school years involves driving to record stores around the St. Louis, Missouri area looking for hard-to-find albums or new bands. That's why I decided today to spend literally hours researching to discover how many record stores in Missouri have managed to hang in there. I found a great list at Vinyl World that included many record stores in the state that have sadly closed. I've done my best to verify that these record stores are still open for business.

The rebirth of vinyl has saved many of these Missouri record stores

During a time when it looked like digital music would make albums obsolete, a passion for vinyl returned in 2007. Many discovered how wonderful it felt to hold an album in their hands, read the liner notes and experience what many believe is a richer audio quality. That trend has not slowed down in recent years either. Many major record companies have started producing new releases on vinyl. While these record stores in Missouri may not be able to survive forever, it's awesome that many have found at least a couple of new decades to show the younger generation why music on vinyl can be life-changing.
