Missouri & Illinois Walmart Stores Warning About Food in 2025
It would be good to mentally start preparing now as Missouri and Illinois Walmart stores are sharing concerns about food issues as we all prepare to move into the new year.
The good news is that there do not appear to be any crazy food shortages in 2025 at this point, so no need to panic. However, I did see a statement from the Walmart CEO that will affect all Missouri and Illinois stores in the new year shared by Supermarket News. Their report says Walmart CEO Doug McMillon is now predicting that not only will food prices not fall at the start of 2025, food inflation may actually continue to be an issue.
Why are Missouri and Illinois food prices expected to continue rising?
The report says that the ongoing bird flu outbreak is driving up the price of eggs and milk and those two food categories seem to be the triggers for what he calls dry groceries to follow suit.
He says that if you shop at Missouri and Illinois Walmart stores for groceries, you may not see any reduction in food prices in 2025 at all.
McMillion says that Walmart is ordering more volume in their food supplies to try and offset the rising costs of what they stock, but that might not be enough to keep food prices from impacting shoppers like you and me. He called us "resilient" and said customers are keeping up with the rising food costs. I would debate that conclusion and say that depends on who you're talking to.
Best to just be prepared to continue to manage rising food costs for another year as there does not yet appear to be relief in sight.
