Travel Strongly Discouraged in Missouri & Illinois All Day Sunday
If there is any way you can avoid it, authorities are warning that you should not travel through most parts of Missouri and Illinois on Sunday as conditions are expected to be treacherous.
We now know for a fact that a winter storm will greatly impact Missouri and Illinois beginning Saturday night and continuing all day Sunday and possibly even into Monday. The National Weather Service in St. Louis just updated their warning today with details on what you can expect. Note the strongly worded warning about travel.
It appears that nearly all of the interstates in Missouri will be affected in some form. There are concerns about an ice event along the I-70 corridor which will make the snow that follows even more problematic.
The National Weather Service is also advising that there will be periods of blowing snow that will make visibility a bare minimum. Combine that with snow that will accumulate quickly and you have a recipe for very dangerous travel where even first responders may have difficulty reaching you if you have an accident or become stranded.
This remains a wildly unpredictable storm as snow totals through the middle and norther parts of Missouri vary from 8 to 16 inches. The only certainty is that you will not want to travel any time Sunday if you can avoid it. This is one time when delaying your trip could save your life.
