Missouri & Illinois Next Snow Event May Not Be That Far Away?
When it comes to December weather, there's some not great news, some excellent news and then maybe more not great news for Missouri and Illinois. The next snow event may not be that far away.
I want to remind you of something I say all the time, but I won't assume you hang on every word I say so I'll say it again. The further down the road you look at computer model runs for weather, the less accurate they get. It's almost a certainty that a variable will change which can alter the forecast of what's to come. This outlook certainly fits into that category.
Let's begin with the very near future of what's almost positively going to happen. The National Weather Service in St. Louis says that a band that crosses parts of Missouri and Illinois will bring small amounts of snowfall Sunday into Monday morning, December 2.
Meteorologist Travis Roberts was looking at multiple computer model trends and here's what he has shared that will likely affect both Missouri and Illinois. First, the good news. Beginning Thursday, December 5 through Saturday, December 7, there will be a warming trend when temps should be back in the 50's at least.
So when is the next snow event likely to happen in Missouri and Illinois?
I wouldn't use the word "likely", but according to the GFS computer model run that Travis just shared, keep an eye on the week of December 14 as cold temperatures will return and there is expected to be moisture which will bring both Missouri and Illinois a chance of rain, snow, sleet or all of the above.
The model right now shows nearly all of Missouri and Illinois getting moisture and we're right along the line where freezing temperatures could give us a mix of everything. However, if the temps dip down only a few degrees, this could become a significant snow event across both states.
If you're hoping/praying for a white Christmas, you might just get your wish. But, remember I said MIGHT.
