Coldest Air in Decades to Bring ‘Unusual Snowstorms’ to Missouri?
Once the calendar turns to 2025, it will feel like someone flicked a switch in Missouri and turned on brutal cold. There is now belief that the coldest air in decades could bring unusual snowstorms to Missouri, too.
There is brand new data that meteorologist Travis Roberts just shared on his Weather With Travis YouTube channel and it directly impacts Missouri and soon. He's looking at a composite of models and sees what he calls "the coldest air in decades" to blanket Missouri early in January.
Here are the composite views of 25 models that all show that cold air bringing with it what he calls "unusual snowstorms" many of which will cover the Midwest in unexpected ways.
January could be so eventful, this is the predicted snowfall for Missouri according to the European weather computer model by February 10, 2025. Yes, that pink shows up to a foot of snow for most of Missouri by mid-February.
Compared to any other winter, this wouldn't be that atypical. However, considering how mild last winter was and how tame this winter has been so far, that would be a seismic shift in weather patterns.
As Travis explains, most of the snowfall predicted by the models is still WAY down the road. There is, however, one potential snow event on our around January 6, 2025 that could be interesting for Missouri. If that comes to pass, look out as the rest of the month may have more surprises incoming.
