Friday has had a curious start in the Missouri boot heel region. A sudden uptick of 3 quakes have been confirmed by the USGS and they're all in a straight line.

I'm not gonna pretend that this is some big deal that should be sending alarm bells ringing, but the New Madrid Fault has released 3 tremors Friday morning all in a straight line and all within a two-hour period and all of almost equal magnitude.

None of these southern Missouri quakes was large enough to even make a dish fall off the wall if it happened directly underneath a home, but they're not super tiny either.

This is made more curious by the fact that the New Madrid Fault had a quake on Thursday just south of I-44 to the west of Fort Leonard Wood where quakes don't normally happen. I have friends at the USGS that will laugh at me if I start drawing conclusions since even I know that you can't predict earthquakes and this sudden uptick of activity this week is NOT necessarily a sign of an imminent major New Madrid event. All I will say is this has been a strange week of Missouri earthquake activity and the week isn't even over yet.
