Missouri Bakery Closing After 27 Years Due to Workforce, Costs
This is sadly a sign of the times that is becoming way too common for many businesses. A Missouri bakery has announced they will be closing after 27 years to due the limitations of available workforce and rising costs to do business.
Heaven Scent Bakery in O'Fallon, Missouri made the announcement on their Facebook page this past weekend that they will be closing soon.
KSDK in St. Louis spoke with the business owners as they told their story of what led them to this sad decision.
If there is a silver lining to this story is the public outpouring has been overwhelming. As of this writing, there are over 1,100 comments of well wishes from the community. I also saw a follow-up Facebook message showing they were quickly selling out of their products.
Heaven Scent Bakery also wanted to make it clear that they haven't closed yet. They plan to remain open for as long as possible depending on help and supplies.
One would hope that businesses throwing up the white flag of surrender would be enough to get the attention of the general public that there never has been a more vital time to support local businesses than now. While Heaven Scent Bakery has said it publicly, I have heard many other businesses quietly expressing the same desperate thoughts that they may not be able to hang on much longer. That's a sad legacy for 2022 so far that many are finding it impossible to continue doing what they do best.
