Metallica Lit Up St. Louis 34 Years Ago on Black Album Tour
Metallica experienced a seismic shift in their evolution as a band when the legendary black album was released in 1991. Many in St. Louis still remember when that "Wherever I May Roam" tour rocked the St. Louis Arena that year. Video has been unearthed showing what that epic concert was like.
Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam" tour landed in St. Louis on November 24, 1991

There's new video that I've found from that St. Louis show that saw Metallica firing on all cylinders.
There is no doubt that Metallica's popularity went into the stratosphere after that 1991 album was released, but not everyone was happy about the changes in the band. I remember much talk in St. Louis from some of the early hardcore fans that felt that Metallica had changed too much from their Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and the And Justice for All albums, but they were far outnumbered by the new fans that latched onto the black album as an all-time favorite. I know a few that claim the November 1991 appearance of Metallica in St. Louis as one of the best concerts the city has ever seen.
