Local Census 2020 Update to Be Held Today
It is tough enough to conduct a census count every 10-years, but doing one during a pandemic can't be an easy chore. With that said, a Census 2020 update will be given today (Friday, March 20) at 11 a.m. at the Quincy City Hall outdoor plaza area.
The United States 2020 Census is coming up on April 1st, 2020. Mayor, Kyle Moore will be providing information on why being counted is important and how you can get counted.
Data collected in the census will influence the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds to states and communities each year for things like infrastructure, health care, and food assistance. It’s important that we all respond to shape the future of our communities.
There will be a few different ways to respond to the census. For the first time the questionnaire can be completed online using a personal computer or the local library. The U.S. Census Bureau will have a system set up to be able to call in and complete the questionnaire over the phone. The questionnaire may also be filled out and submitted via U.S mail.
“The Census is about Quincy and Adams County having fair representation in the U.S. House of Representatives. To receive a fair return on federal taxes paid annually by its citizenry and it’s about doing your civic duty under the U.S. Constitution that requires everybody be counted” according to local census official Chuck Bevelheimer.
