Yes, Missouri Just Lost the Kansas City Chiefs to Kansas
I thought it was all a ploy to convince Missouri into building a new stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs, but I was obviously very wrong. Yes, it is now confirmed that Missouri lost the Chiefs to the state of Kansas.
Here's the share from the Kansas City Chiefs on X today.
The Kansas City Chiefs provided more details in a press release about how the team has decided to partner with the state of Kansas for a new stadium:
"Today we are excited to take another momentous step for the future of the franchise. We have entered into an agreement with the State of Kansas to host Chiefs football beginning with the 2031 NFL season. In the years ahead, we look forward to designing and building a state-of-the-art domed stadium and mixed-use district in Wyandotte County, and a best-in-class training facility, team headquarters, and mixed-use district in Olathe, totaling a minimum of $4 billion of development in the State of Kansas."
The reality is that Olathe, Kansas is a mere half hour drive from Kansas City, but it's the fact that it's in stupid Kansas that makes the news hard to swallow. The only NFL game I've ever attended was at Arrowhead Stadium. Never in my life have I been at a live event that was louder than that experience. The idea of a domed stadium in Kansas is something I'm having a hard time swallowing. But, business is business and the Chiefs wanted a new stadium and they're getting it - in Kansas.
