Video Shows Highway 61 in Missouri at a Standstill Due to Ice
If you need evidence that it's best to stay off the highways and roads today, take a look at this. A new video shows that Highway 61 in Missouri is at a complete lockdown due to ice.
Dawn Goings Lowrey shared this video from her home in LaGrange, Missouri this morning.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation website, a vast majority of roads in northeast Missouri are listed as "covered" and that's obviously with the ice storm we warned was coming.
The Hannibal Police Department also showed extremely treacherous conditions.
Ralls County Sheriff Brad Stinson shared pictures of many other rural roads and highways closed due to ice. He indicated that rescue vehicles were having trouble responding to accidents.
As this is a developing situation, I will update it once roads are opened again. In the meantime, stay at home if at all possible while this ice and freezing rain event passes. The temperatures are forecast to warm up as the day goes on.
