Will Illinois become the 2nd State to Ban Skittles?

California just passed the first ever "Skittles Ban" as it is being called, and now the focus shifts to the Land of Lincoln, will Illinois follow California? Here are the details...

According to USA Today, California has a new law that states by 2027 products like Skittles that contain Red Dye #3, or one of 3 other commonly used chemicals that are not FDA approved, will be banned. The article on USA Today goes on to say...

"... will prohibit the manufacture, sale or distribution of brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben and Red Dye 3. The four chemicals are used in as many as 12,000 food products across the country despite never having been approved for consumption by the Food and Drug Administration...All four additives have already been banned by European regulators, with the narrow exception of Red Dye 3 in candied cherries, according to Consumer Reports."

Will Illinois follow California? My guess is yes, yes it will. Most blue states follow the lead of other blue states, the same can be said for red states. But my real thought is that Illinois won't have to change its law. Why? Because big companies like Skittles are already making their product different to fit the laws in Europe, if they now have to manufacture their product that way for California too, why not just make all their candies that one specific way? Most likely, in my opinion, this is the beginning of the end of foods that you know and love being made with these chemicals. If this was Deleware or Rhode Island trying to pass this law through, I'd say "don't worry" but it is California, which means Illinois and New York are likely to follow, which means the whole country will be subjected to these changes. Do you think it is a good thing to pressure these companies to change their foods to make them healthier?
