Kansas City Zoo Names 650,000 Gallon Aquarium Opening Soon

The new feature at the Kansas City Zoo, which opens in September, officially has its name.

Guests of the Kansas City Zoo will see have a new experience to visit, The Sobela Ocean Aquarium is slated to open on September 1. The 650,000-gallon aquarium will feature six zones with 34 habitats telling the story of the ocean and the fish that live in it. The $75 million project has been in construction for a few years now and will be a state-of-the-art facility for guests.

The new aquarium is named and the grandchildren of the benefactors of the project.

We don't get to see the ocean or the species that live in the ocean at all in the Midwest and this new aquarium will bring the ocean to the Midwest.

Zoo visitors will enjoy an up-close and personal experience, beginning at the warm-water shore habitat and traveling “deeper” through mangrove forests, sandy shores, tropical lagoons, and coral reefs.

The last update of the project was given back in September until now. I know many people are excited to see this massive project that has been under construction for some time now.

Unlike the St. Louis Zoo which is free (which a few paid areas) the Kansas City Zoo is a paid admission zoo. We've visited this KC Zoo and fell in love with it. It offers so much including an African Tram, KCZoo Railroad, and the Endangered Species Carousel.
