It was announced this week that the Illinois Sheriff's Association will be awarding some $53,500 in college scholarships throughout the State of Illinois to students who pursue higher education during the 2018-2019 academic year. The scholarships are designated to be used for tuition, books, and fees only and the student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning in the State of Illinois and a permanent resident of the State of Illinois.

Locally, Adams County Sheriff Brian Vonderhaar will award one scholarship worth $500.  Applications are now available at all Sheriff's offices in each county including Adams, Brown, Pike and Hancock Counties.

Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff's Office in their county of permanent residence by March 15, 2018 or postmarked by that date.

For more information, contact your local Sheriff's Office, The Illinois Sheriff's Association, a high school councilor's office or college financial aid office.
