Hannibal–Cheapest Gas in The U.S.?
The national average price for a gallon of gas is $2.18. After some research on the web, I couldn't find any gas price in the country cheaper than Hannibal's rate today of $1.70/gallon.
That price is driving some big business from customers in Illinois who are looking to save a few bucks for a fill up.
According to AAA, the average price gas in Missouri is $1.90. That compares to $2.37 in Illinois and $2.06 in Iowa. As usual, the most expensive gas in the country is in Hawaii at $3.23 per gallon. You can check out the prices by state and county around the USA by clicking here.
At the height of the nationwide lockdown, Hannibal's gas prices went as low as $1.40.
As usual, you need the inside story to get the cheapest gas in Hannibal. It's a trick all the locals know. You'll always find the best price on Mark Twain Avenue which is the last exit on I-72/MO-36 before you cross the bridge into Illinois. It's the road that leads to historic downtown Hannibal. But here's tip number two: the price you see on the big marquee is not the price you pay at the pump. It generally runs about ten cents cheaper than advertised.
Happy travels!
