The Hannibal Arts Council will host a week-long visual art camp for students ages 13 to 16 beginning July 22. The camp will provide participants with in-depth opportunities to work alongside local artists, learn about a variety of art forms and create their own original art. Instructors are Josh McCurdy (pottery), Joe Conover (encaustic), Brenda Benson (3-D mixed media), Carol Gilliland (wire work) and Pat Kerns (powdered graphite). The camp is being sponsored by the George H. Riedel Private Foundation.

“It’s always a challenge to keep kids engaged during the summer months. HAC sponsors programs for younger children every month, however we felt the need to offer an in-depth art experience for teenagers, and urbanINFLUENCE was our opportunity,” says Michael Gaines, HAC Executive Director. “Mixing teenagers with area professional artists can play a role in sparking an interest in the arts and/or nurturing their creative spirit.”

The week-long camp will be held at the Hannibal Arts Council from 9:30-11:30 a.m. from July 22 to July 26. Cost for the camp is $50 per student. Scholarships are available upon request. The number of participants is limited to 20 students. Registration is required. For questions or to register, contact the Hannibal Arts Council at 573-221-6545 or kerrieo@hannibalarts.com.
