Glow-in-the-Dark Missouri Mushroom Blooms in July and is Poison

My dad went mushroom hunting every spring, but there's one he never brought home to cook up. It's a mushroom that blooms in Missouri in July and it has the neat side effect of glowing in the dark, but it's also very poisonous.

Kudos to Only In Your State who recently featured this admittedly pretty mushroom. It's strange to call a mushroom pretty, but it really is. During the day, it's a bright orange.

It's at night that this mushroom takes on another look entirely.

While they're pretty to look at, this is one mushroom you don't want to fry up. Iowa State University documented how poisonous the Jack-O- Lantern Mushroom is explaining that it will cause a person to experience "severe stomach upset accompanied by vomiting, diarrhea and headache". NOPE. I'll take a hard pass on this one even though I used to love mushrooms.

This is a mushroom that also flourishes in the rainforest and National Geographic captured them there showing what they look like at night.

It's fun to look at, but this is a mushroom you definitely don't want to touch and/or eat. It's important to share this now due to the fact that July is the month you'll really start seeing these in the wild.
