Ghost of Frank James Said to Still Haunt this 1859 Missouri Jail
Something is not right inside this historic Missouri jail. It's not just something you can feel in the air, but almost a sense of dread that remains inside the same space that once housed legendary outlaw Frank James. Some believe he's still there today.

Historic Independence Square dates back to the mid-1850's when it served an entirely different purpose....the Jackson County Jail. It was the home (albeit temporary) of Confederate leader William Clark Quantrill and outlaw Frank James. This old Missouri jail was also once home to U.S. Marshals. "Frontier justice" led to Jesse James brother Frank staying in this jail for 6 months. If you believe paranormal investigators, he's still there...or something is still there.
The stories say that during his time in this Independence, Missouri jail, Frank James was treated like royalty. His reputation as one of the most famous outlaws of the west with his brother Jesse had preceded him.
Now, paranormal investigators experience hearing their names said by disembodied voices. Camera flip around when no one's around and electronic devices detect the presence of...something.
That's one of the reasons why the 1859 Jackson County Jail is considered a must-visit for paranormal tours in Missouri. It's full of history - both past and possibly present.
