What was high school basketball like 80 years ago? Film found in the attic of a house once owned by long time Illinois High School Association administrator H.V. Porter includes a few minutes of action from the Quincy Blue Devils first state basketball championship in 1934. The IHSA recently uploaded the film to YouTube.

In addition to the '34 Blue Devils, you'll see a very youthful Lou Boudreau long before his baseball playing and broadcasting career.

You'll also get a sense of what Huff Gym - now known as Huff Hall - was like in it's earliest days. You'll also get a sense of how the game was played 80 years ago.

The film was shot by H.V. Porter. Porter is also the man who coined the term 'March Madness' to describe the IHSA state basketball tournament.  Below, you will also find the link to the full hour and twenty five minutes of film.
