
Violent Crime Crackdown Rocks East St. Louis, Illinois
There's a renewed focus on violent crime that's being directed at East St. Louis by the Illinois State Police as they've just completed another two-night sweep of the region which has resulted in several brand new felony charges.
The Public Information Office of the Illinois State Police just shared the results of a crime crackdown that was just completed on July 29 and July 30, 2025. The hope is that these operations will help reduce the incidents of violent crime in that part of the metro area across the river from St. Louis. Here are the numbers they shared from those two nights.

- Felony Charges 7
- Criminal Charges 13
- Firearm Related Charges 8
- Firearms Seized 7
- Stolen Vehicles Recovered 1
I've driven through East St. Louis a few times in my life and none of those experiences were anything less than terrifying. I'm hopeful that efforts like this can help the innocent people who have no choice but to call that city home.
These kinds of crime operations require incredible coordination between local and state Illinois law enforcement agencies. Their statement says that this East St. Louis sweep was done by the Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6, Firearms Investigations Unit, Air Operations, SWAT, and the Public Safety Enforcement Group joined forces with the Division of Patrol’s Special Operation Group South Statewide Anti-Violence Enforcement Unit. Homeland Security was also a part of this East St. Louis, Illinois effort.
