If you live in Missouri or Illinois and don't already consider this to be a potential reality in your life, you really should consider it. There are new comments by quake experts warning Missouri and Illinois that the 'big one' really is coming and we're getting closer to it every day.

This new story by The Daily Mail became a topic when there was a swarm of at least 7 quakes along the New Madrid Fault in southern Missouri and Illinois a few days ago.

The article quotes Robbie Myers, an emergency coordinator with the Missouri Department of Safety, as saying "every year that goes by, the likelihood becomes greater" when asked about the 40% chance that the New Madrid Fault will experience a quake greater than 7 in our lifetime.

No one is talking about a potentially more terrifying scenario...

Let's look at the official USGS hazard map for the New Madrid Fault and also the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone. Notice the proximity of both seismic areas from southern Missouri into Illinois toward the Indiana border.

Seismologists have told us that the New Madrid Fault and the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone are both capable of 7+ magnitude quakes. What if one causes the other to have an event and they happen simultaneously? Scariest environment imaginable.

If you don't already at least know in the back of your mind that the ground beneath us could betray us someday, please consider it and have an emergency plan prepared. The warnings are being issued about an event that will affect us sooner rather than later.
