Warning, Sudden Swarm of 7 New Madrid Missouri Earthquakes Monday
The New Madrid Fault has my undivided attention now. There have been a half dozen confirmed quakes in southern Missouri and Monday isn't even half over yet.
UPDATE: There have now been 7 New Madrid, Missouri quakes Monday with the latest registering a 3.0 magnitude, the largest of the swarm so far.
ORIGINAL STORY: The USGS seismologists have reviewed and confirmed a series of 6 New Madrid, Missouri quakes which have all happened Monday and they're all located near New Madrid, Missouri itself.
None of the half dozen New Madrid, Missouri area quakes have been large, but they haven't been tiny either with the largest registering a 2.7 magnitude just after midnight last night.
Is this swarm Monday a series of foreshocks before a major New Madrid event?
There is no way to know until a major quake would happen unfortunately. But, if I were you, I'd keep an eye on what's happening in southern Missouri today and always have an emergency earthquake plan in place. The reality of living in Missouri is we have one of the most seismically-active faults in America under our feet and we know that some day in the future, it will ruin all of our days.
