COVID Procedure Changes Coming to Quincy Public Schools
In the last weeks we've seen COVID daily numbers decrease, and many of our community members are getting vaccinated. Now Quincy Public Schools look to change some of their procedures and process for students, teachers, and parents.
Mr. Roy Webb, the Superintendent for QPS schools, posted yesterday that changes are coming to the way students and teachers enter schools. Since day one of school, students, bus drivers, bus riders, and teachers have to wear masks, and get temperatures taken to enter any Quincy School Building. Now, the Illinois Department of Health are releasing new guidelines for those attending school in-person, and QPS will follow them.
In the Facebook post, those who are fully vaccinated (two weeks after second dose of COVID Vaccine) will not have to quarantine for the next 90 days after they become fully vaccinated. There will no longer be screening of temperature checks for staff, students, and visitors. However, you are asked that if you're not feeling good or your child is not feeling well that they stay home. Temperature checks will also stop for students who ride the bus to school.
The Morrison Theatre (located at Quincy Junior High School) will be opened on a limited basis for organizations to use with a limit of 50 people at a time. All individuals and groups using our facilities must follow all IDPH requirements, which does include mask wearing and social distancing.
We are moving in the right direction and we are getting there, now its up to us the community, to not drop the ball and see high numbers again, but to keep up what we are doing. If you are able to get vaccinated, there are spots open if you want to schedule a time. If you are unsure if you qualify to get the vaccine now, log onto the Adams County Health Department's website for all the vaccine information.
