Beware, Illinois – 10 Dead from Off-Brand Weight Loss Drugs
Many of us prefer off-brand medications because it often saves money compared to the more well-known brands. You should know that off-brand weight loss drugs have become a big problem in Illinois as reports confirm hundreds are hospitalized and 10 are dead as a result of them.
The Times is reporting that off-brand versions of Ozempic and Wegovy have now been connected with numerous hospitalizations and 10 deaths as of this writing. These counterfeit versions of the legitimate weight loss drugs are widely available in Illinois and many do not understand how dangerous they can be.
What's the danger of fake weight loss drugs available in Illinois?
The Food and Drug Administration is warning that unapproved GLP-1 drugs meant for weight loss are "risky" and "do not undergo FDA’s review for safety, effectiveness and quality before they are marketed".
Part of the problem with these counterfeit compounded versions of legitimate weight loss drugs is the amount of dosing. The FDA says they have "received multiple reports of adverse events, some requiring hospitalization, that may be related to dosing errors associated with compounded injectable semaglutide products."
This is becoming more of a problem in Illinois as many are reporting great results with big weight loss from the name brand products.
