Chicago Cubs Broadcasts Moving From WGN to WBBM in Chicago

For some 90 years the Chicago Cubs games have been heard on WGN Radio in Chicago, but that will all come to an end when the last out of the 2014 season is made. The Chicago Cubs, according to the Chicago Tribune sources, have signed a long term contract with CBS owned WBBM radio to broadcast Cub’s baseball beginning next season. 

According to reports, the Cub’s broadcasters on radio, Pat Hughes and Ron Coomer are expected to remain behind the microphones and switch over to WBBM next season.  WGN reportedly was losing money on the broadcasts and chose to end their relationship with the Cubs as a result.

Many Cub fans grew up listening to WGN Radio with legendary voices, like Jack Brickhouse, Vince Lloyd,  Harry Caray and Ron Santo. I have been fortunate to be able to meet all of those gentleman and they were a big part of WGN’s past success. Perhaps a change of radio stations may be a prelude to the Cub’s finally winning a World Series.

You won’t have to slide that dial too far with the change as WGN is at 720 and WBBM is at 780 on the AM dial in Chicago.
