Many product recalls come and go without any real illnesses reported. This sadly is not one of them. One cat has already died from a pet food available in Illinois that is now under an urgent recall due to a positive bird flu test.

The cat food that is available in Illinois was produced by Northwest Naturals. On Christmas Eve, the company issued a bulletin announcing they were voluntarily recalling one of their cat foods after it tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus.

Here is the recalled pet food:

The company's statement mentioned that a cat had an illness connected to this pet food recall, but it was CNN that just reported the animal had died.

The press release says this pet food is available and being recalled from Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Washington state.

Northwest Naturals says if you find you have this product, you should discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. It's unknown at this time if any or how many Illinois animals might be affected by this contaminated cat food.
