Nearly 400 Cut by Illinois Firm in Harsh Email Layoff
At least they're being given some advanced warning. Nearly 400 workers for a company in Illinois learned they will soon be jobless in an email that some are calling harsh.
I saw this new WARN notice just posted to the Illinois Work Net Center site. It states that 390 will be jobless with the layoffs expected to be effective as of August 4, 2025. The notice comes from CareerBuilder, LLC and Monster Worldwide, LLC located at 200 N La Salle St Ste 1100 in Chicago, Illinois. In an effort to confirm this mass layoff, I came across an intriguing article about what's going on shared by Ere. It referred to an email that an employee of the company claims was sent to employees on June 5, 2025. The full text was shared on LinkedIn. Here's a snippet of the letter which you can see in its entirety here. I've added my own emphasis.
"Dear Employee, we are writing to inform you that CareerBuilder LLC and Monster Worldwide LLC (collectively "the company") will be closing the Company's United States Headquarters located at 200 North LaSalle Street in Chicago, Illinois, and terminating the employment of employees, including you".
The email purportedly goes on to say that the company expects August 4, 2025 to be the last day of employment, but they also say that the possible sale of the company may or may not affect their future employment. So you're saying there's a chance?
The Ere article adds that a company spokesperson stated they were not making any changes to employment today, but the notice was sent due to the uncertainty of what the possible sale of the company might involve. The WARN notice was alerting the state of Illinois that this mass layoff may happen.
Many are noting the irony of a career placement company announcing such a large layoff. Let's just hope that if this layoff notice given to the state of Illinois ends up becoming reality in August that all the affected employees land on their feet - including you.
