Burger King Closing Up to 400 Locations – Could Missouri Be Next?
It's a sign of the times when even fast food chains are closing restaurants. There's a new report that claims Burger King will close up to 400 locations including many in the Midwest. Does that mean that Missouri could be next? Let's find out.
Back in April, Restaurant Business Online reported that 27 Burger Kings would close this year. That number just made a big jump. Now, The Krazy Coupon Lady says that up to 400 Burger Kings will close by the end of 2023.
So what does this mean for Missouri Burger King locations?
As of this writing, the announced Burger King closings include many in the Midwest including the following states:
- Kansas
- Nebraska
- Minnesota
When you do the math, if they're focusing on midwestern Burger King locations, it would figure that would include Missouri restaurants, too. Let's be clear though that as of this writing, there are NO reports of Missouri Burger King closures including the Hannibal location.
Why is Burger King closing so many restaurants?
Restaurant Business Online reports that it's due to reported bankruptcy proceedings for franchisee Meridian. The Krazy Coupon Lady says that this is nothing unusual according to the company. They shared the following:
The CEO maintains that it’s pretty typical for the company to close “a couple hundred” Burger King locations each year.
Time will tell if the up to 400 Burger King closings will affect Missouri places. Let's hope for the sake of those who are employed there and for as many food options as possible that is not the case.
