Illinois Plant Closure Will Mean 88 Jobs Suddenly Gone
2025 has already revealed itself to be a challenging year for manufacturing and employment. Now, there's a notice that a plant in Illinois is closing and that will result in 88 jobs disappearing.
One of the newest WARN notices on the Illinois Work Net website shows the state was notified that a plant would be closing in Bridgeview, Illinois.
Smurfit Westrock describes itself as "a global leader in sustainable paper and packaging, operates in 40 countries with over 500 packaging converting operations and 62 paper mills."
I have reached out to the company to get clarification about why this Illinois plant is closing and to see if the layoffs will be permanent or if workers will be allowed to transition to other locations. I will update this if there is more information provided about why 88 Illinoisans are now out of work.
