There was some hope that a last minute sale would save the remaining locations of Big Lots, but that now has apparently fallen through as the chain has started going out of business sales and will close all Missouri and Illinois stores soon.

I saw this reported by The Hill earlier today. It says that a sale of Big Lots to a private equity firm was now not going to happen and the result is the chain initiating going out of business sales at all the stores which have not been closed already.

The report says this will affect 963 Big Lots locations in total. The corporate Big Lots store locator shows only a dozen stores remain open in Missouri as of this writing. There are 13 Big Lots stores in Illinois that will also be affected by this sudden going out of business process.

The report does not indicate the closing date for all of the Missouri and Illinois store locations although it would be safe to assume that how fast remaining inventory sells out will decide that day.
