Best Sandwich Invented in Missouri is an Open-Faced Dreamboat
It is just so good and it's not hard to make yourself either. The best sandwich invented in Missouri is an open-faced creation that first saw the light of day in 1973 in St. Louis. It's dreamy (in a food kind of way).
The appropriately-named website Love Food just compiled a list of the best sandwiches that were invented in each state and their choice for Missouri is perfect. It begins with buttering the bread with garlic butter.
Then, you add the ham, and Provel cheese and you get what is known as the Gerber Sandwich which originated at Ruma's Deli in St. Louis, Missouri where a customer named Dick Gerber asked for a sandwich made this particular way.
Ruma's Deli in St. Louis still offers the Gerber "Special" on their menu to this day and while the original makers do it perfect, it's easy to freewheel your own Gerber sandwich like this YouTuber does.
I've never met a sandwich I didn't like, but this "best one invented in Missouri" is truly special. It's also incredibly filling. You won't need a side of chips or fries if you get ahold (or make your own) of these bad boys. A Gerber sandwich in Missouri is about as good as it gets.
