I don't normally seek out danger, but I'll make an exception in this case. I will dare to ask the question of who makes the best cheese in Wisconsin and while many get mentioned, it seems like there are two that are most often crowned as the best in Wisconsin.

I don't dare declare a winner myself. While I love cheese and consume a lot of it thanks to my low-carb routine (real cheese, not the cheese 'food', btw), I leave it to the audience to decide which cheese rises to the top in this heated debate. A brave person asked this question on Reddit not that long ago and some great names came up in conversation.

Here are some of the brands mention on Reddit:

  • Hooks
  • Roth
  • Deppler
  • Carr Valley
  • DuPont
  • Ellsworth
  • Uplands
  • Union Star
  • Roelli
  • Deer Creek
  • Marieke
  • Widmers
  • Pleasant Ridge Reserve
  • Cesars
  • Country Castle
  • Dairy State

This is not a conclusive list. One commenter wisely recommended that Wisconsin's best cheese should be separated into regions as each has a favorite.

Two brands that I saw getting mentioned frequently were Hooks and Uplands Cheese - both have been award winners for a very long time.

If you think I'm going to say what I think is Wisconsin's best cheese, you've got another thing coming. I know a dumpster fire when I see one and saying what cheese is best in Wisconsin is the equivalent of fighting words.
