Advocacy Network for Children will hold its second celebrity bar pour event, “Pouring for a Cause” this Thursday, January 10, at the Park Bench/Revelry, 121 North 4th Street, Quincy. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A number of local celebrity bartenders will be on hand serving patrons for tips which will be donated to the agency. The dollars raised will support Advocacy Network for Children which provides advocacy for abused and neglected children in nine counties in West Central Illinois.

Advocacy Network for Children provides two distinct programs for abused and neglected children in our community. The CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program recruits, trains and supervises volunteers to speak in the best interest of abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system. Last year, over 200 children were represented by CASA volunteers in the court system.

The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) also provides a child-friendly, neutral environment where the child victims of sexual abuse or severe physical abuse and their non-offending caretaker(s) meet with law enforcement, Department of Children and Family Services and State’s Attorneys for the purpose of investigation.

The Children’s Advocacy Center coordinates the investigation and provides a variety of advocacy and support to the child victim and non-offending caretaker(s). Children’s Advocacy Center staff helps bridge the gap between social services, law enforcement, and the court system. The Children’s Advocacy Center program served nearly 450 children in Fiscal Year 2018.

In addition, Advocacy Network for Children provides a prevention program to children Pre-K through 5th grade. The program teaches children how to recognize welcome and unwelcome touches and how to say “no”. The program also teaches children who to report unwelcome touches to. The curriculum used, “Happy Bear” and “P.S…. It’s My Body!” is evidence based and age appropriate.
