This Hannibal, Missouri hospital has been vacant as long as I can remember. Now, there's a new investigation done by urban explorers that reveal what's left inside of this historic medical facility.

One of my colleagues showed me a share on the What's Happening in Hannibal, MO Facebook page that showed a brand new exploration of St. Elizabeth Hospital. It's an urban exploration adventure shared by YouTube channel Free4All.

Here are a couple of important moments in their exploration. Even though it's been empty for decades, the old St. Elizabeth hospital still has much of the historic architecture visible although decay is prevalent.

I know this hospital well. If my memory is correct, this is the Hannibal hospital that I was born in back...well, it was a really long time ago. My grandmother was a nurse in St. Elizabeth who allegedly tried to wash the red out of my hair because both of my parents had dark hair. My hair remains one of the least important unsolved mysteries in Missouri, but that's a story for a different day.

Wikipedia tells of the interesting history of St. Elizabeth Hospital saying it was built in 6 stages beginning in 1915 through 1973. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. So much history that now sits inside of so much decay which is a crying shame, but that's what the passage of time does to places like this that sit empty for decades.
