I should probably have phrased that differently. It's not that strange to buy onion rings from Dollar Tree. Oh, wait. Yes, it is. But, I digress...

So what about an onion ring recall from Dollar Tree?

I saw this bulletin from the FDA announcing that "Rudolph Foods Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Wheat in Rudolph’s OnYums “Onion Flavored Rings". Oh, so onion FLAVORED rings. That makes more sense.

The FDA bulletin goes on to say "Rudolph’s 3 oz. OnYums “Onion Flavored Rings” were sold in select Dollar Tree Stores in 17 states: Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Wyoming."

Here's what the package looks like if you're the person that bought these probably delicious onion-flavored rings.

Oh, so these aren't really onion rings, but a snack like Funyuns. Nice.

There really is a serious reason why these onion-flavored rings have been recalled. The FDA issued the following stern warning:

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products

Of all the ways to potentially see your life end, having it happen because of onion-flavored rings from Dollar Tree would be the worst.

Side note: I highly recommend following this guy who turned himself into a Dollar Tree gourmet using only ingredients in their stores. Oh, wait. He went to Dollar Store. my bad.
