Weird Earthquakes Felt By Dozens in Illinois on Indiana Border
This isn't a typical place where you see an earthquake happen. No, it wasn't major, but it was felt by dozens of people in Illinois and by those living on the Indiana border as confirmed by the USGS.
UPDATE: Now, there have been TWO earthquakes in extreme eastern Illinois.
ORIGINAL STORY: Since I'm an earthquake nerd, I check the USGS shake page daily. I'm used to seeing minor earthquakes along the New Madrid Fault in Missouri sometimes in Arkansas and/or Tennessee. This morning, I noticed a quake in a strange place in Illinois. It's way over on the eastern part of the state near Indiana. The USGS confirmed it measured a 2.3 on the Richter Scale.
The USGS "felt report" shows that 17 as of this writing report feeling this shaker.
While a 2.3 earthquake is nothing to be concerned about, the fact that so many have instantly reported feeling it is curious. This quake is similar to a 2.4 earthquake that was felt in southern Illinois earlier this year.
It's worth mentioning that there was also a strange quake in North Carolina today. Go figure. Maybe this will be strange earthquake place day and hopefully not precursor to a much stronger one.
