
US Marshals Capture Suspect in Deadly Illinois Fire
A suspect that is accused of starting a fire that claimed the life of a firefighter in Illinois is now in custody thanks to the efforts of the US Marshals.
According to a press release from the US Marshals service, a suspect that was wanted by the Chicago Police Department for involvement in a deadly Loyola Park fire is now in custody. They say that Sheaves Slate was arrested on March 18, 2026 by the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in Chicago. The fire was located at 1757 N. Shore Avenue in Chicago. Slate was wanted for aggravated arson causing injury to fire/police.
The Chicago Fire Department was dispatched in response to a fire in this building which resulted in Firefighter Michael Altman being fatally injured after he fell through the first floor of the structure.
The US Marshals added that the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force has successfully apprehended over 117,700 fugitives since it was formed back in April of 2003. They are called into action when the most violent and dangerous fugitives are on the loose.
