The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies spotted an unoccupied pickup on the shoulder of Highway 104 near Fierge Auto and Salvage just before 2 a.m. Friday.

An investigation revealed footprints from the truck to the fence of the salvage yard and a bag full of tools at the east side of the yard.

Deputies found three men, 35 year old Pernell Dopheide, Tevin Black and Alejandro Morales, all of Kahoka, hiding in the brush outside the salvage yard.

Further investigation indicated the three had broken into a building in the salvage yard, removing catalytic converters from several vehicles. They had also allegedly vandalized another vehicle and taken the cash box out of a soda machine.

Dopheide, Black and Morales are in the Adams County Jail, charged with criminal damage to property, burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal trespass.

There will be a bond hearing for the three Tuesday.
