This Quincy Attraction Was Named One Of Illinois Best

The Chicago Tribune is working on an Illinois bicentennial bucket list - a roster of 200 things every Illinoisan should do, see, eat, or drink. A recent article in that series showcased architecture and listed 20 must-see attractions in Illinois. The second item on The Chicago Tribune's list is Quincy's own Villa Kathrine.

Villa Kathrine was built in 1900 based on sketches, notes, and drawings Quincy native George Metz created during a prolonged tour of Mediterranean Europe and Africa. The Villa ben Abhen was Metz's choice as a model for the Villa Katherine.

I have had the pleasure of attending several events at Villa Kathrine, but have never taken the time to tour this fabulous home. Self guided tours are available when Villa Kathrine is open for a minimal charge.

The hours listed are Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sundays, but since the facility is staffed and operated by volunteers, Volunteer Coordinator Betty Poore suggested you call ahead to make sure there is a volunteer manning the reception desk.
