I saw an article reference a "bridge to nowhere" in Missouri which sounds like something someone would make up. I have learned that is wasn't fabricated and there really is a bridge to nowhere in Missouri, but that wasn't always the case.

Credit to Only In Your State for bringing this bridge to my attention. It's the old lift bridge near Boonville, Missouri.

John Marvig Railroad Bridge Photography shared some history of this structure. They show it was built in 1932. It would remain active until 1986. There is some somewhat rare video of the last train that traveled across this Boonville bridge on May 23, 1986.

Now, what used to be a bridge for trains is a trail for hikers that is very well regarded on TripAdvisor. Many say it's one of the best ways to see the Missouri River. Just don't expect that you're going anywhere once you reach the middle of the bridge as the lift is permanently...lifted. I've been told there is even a warning to daredevils not to try and jump the expanse. It's remarkable that there needs to be a sign for that, if it's true.

The old lift bridge near Boonville, Missouri is a structure with a lot of history that reminds us of a different era that is now long gone, but not forgotten.
