Missouri’s Most Impressive Bridge is Crooked and Closed
I'm not saying it's not impressive, but the Missouri bridge just declared one of the most spectacular in the state is truthfully very crooked and very closed.
This honor for a Missouri bridge does not come from me, but the website Love Exploring. They decided the world needed a list of the most impressive bridges in each state and their choice for Missouri is both historic and debatable.
This is of course the old Chain of Rock Bridge near St. Louis, Missouri. What's funny is that both Missouri and Illinois claim this bridge as their own. The National Park Service site originates from Illinois. Well played, Land of Lincoln.
As Wikipedia declares, the old Chain of Rocks Bridge opened in 1929 and closed to vehicle traffic in 1970. This span has seen its share of movie fame and tragedy as it was the site for some iconic film moments in Escape From New York and horrific murders of two sisters in 1991.
The old Chain of Rocks Bridge is impressive if only for how unusual it is with the odd sharp turn near the middle. If I had a vote in this, I would have chosen the Christopher S. Bond Bridge in Kansas City as being one of the most visually impressive Missouri bridges, but that's just me. Can't argue with Love Exploring's choice of history over engineering.
