Live theatre has taken such a hit across the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic. In many places like Broadway in New York City, live theatre wont be returning until well into the next calendar year. We are lucky here in the Tri-States though because the Theatre Department at Hannibal-LaGrange University goes live with their production of "The Bear" next week!

Hannibal-LaGrange University's Theatre Department presents Anton Chekov’s comedy one act play "The Bear" at the Roland Fine Arts Center’s Parker Theatre starting Thursday, November 12th and going through November 14th. On the school's website they say...

"“The Bear” is a hilarious farce of human passions. When Gregory Smirnov comes to widow Yelena Popova’s home looking to collect on a debt of her late husband’s, their fiery natures collide and explode. Featuring larger-than-life characters and high-energy comedy, “The Bear” is Anton Chekov’s most enduring comedy."

Tickets to this show are only $5 a person and you can reserve your ticket by calling their box office at 573-629-3182 or by emailing boxoffice@hlg.edu, the show times are 6:30pm and 8:30pm each night of the show.

I can't recommend this one act play enough! I was lucky to have lived in Moscow, Russia for a couple months in college when I was studying abroad, and got to see this iconic Russian one act performed in Russia! It is hilarious, fun, endearing, and very very human. If you are looking for a date night out, or just want to indulge in the arts after having it gone for so many months check it out!
