I know it's not "festival season" in the cotton candy, funnel cake, lemon shake-up, BBQ sense. But there are plenty of amazing winter festivals to check out too. And one of them right here in the Gem City was just named the best in the state!
One of the fun things to do during a cold month like January is to view the majestic Bald Eagles. This weekend you will get the opportunity at two different locations as the Oakley Lindsay Center in Quincy will be the sight of Great River Eagle Days and the Keokuk Area Convention and Tourism Bureau will be hosting Bald Eagle Appreciation Days at the River City Mall in Keokuk, Iowa.
The Friends of the Castle have announced that they have a new host at the Villa Kathrine. It's an eagle and he will be at the Villa Kathrine through January 16 and then will be at the Oakley-Lindsay Center in Quincy for the "Great River Eagle Days" on January 17 and 18.
I drove across the Bayview Bridge in Quincy last Sunday and as I did I couldn't help but notice the numerous Bald Eagles that were perched on the icebergs in the river and in the trees along the river. All chomping at the "beak" to secure their next meal of fish. Is it me or are you also seeing more of these fabulous birds this year?
