Local children in need of school supplies will benefit from the annual Stuff the Bus weekend August 7-9.  The Salvation Army is working with the Walmart locations Pittsfield, Hannibal and Quincy to collect items on area school supply lists.

This event is going on in 4,500 communities this year, but in light of COVID-19, the collections will be dropped in a bin rather than collected by volunteers.

“There are children in this area whose parents will have to make the tough choice between school supplies, groceries, the electric bill or insurance,” said local Salvation Army Volunteer Coordinator Jeremy Koren. “We anticipate this number will increase significantly this year due to the pandemic, and we want to help in whatever way we can.”

For those unable to make it to Walmart during the event, there is a searchable online registry listing all the items needed. Each item requires just one click to purchase. All donations made at the Stuff the Bus campaign will remain in the community to provide back-to-school support for local children in need.
