St. Louis & Kansas City Now Both Top 10 Most Dangerous US Cities
When I think of St. Louis and Kansas City, I immediately think of the Cardinals and Chiefs. So when I think of them being in the top 10 for something, it makes me happy. In this case, it's the opposite. New 2023 crime data shows both Missouri cities have now crawled into the top 10 most dangerous cities in America.
I saw this interesting crime dig shared by Roadsnacks which said they accumulated this ranking using what they call "Saturday Night Science" which they say includes these things:
- Transparent Methodology
- Trusted Sources
- Tested With Data
- Timely
That "timely" part says they use "new Census, FBI, and government data".
That "new" 2023 data now has both of Missouri's major metros among the 10 most dangerous in America. St. Louis is ranked at #5 and Kansas City comes in at #10. (Sorry, Chiefs, but you lost this one) The bigger question is will this mean Taylor Swift will need more security at the next game she attends? America wants to know. (*sarcasm*)
Back to the serious topic at hand. Here are two facts from the Roadsnacks story which are sobering:
Last year, more than 200 people were murdered in St Louis
And for Kansas City, it's this:
Rank Last Year: 15 (Up 5)
Kansas City now in the ranks that no city ever wants to be in. I suppose it could be expected as the population is exploding in Kansas City compared to other parts of Missouri. With that comes an influx of criminals, too. Sadly.
If there's a positive side to this, at least Kansas City and St. Louis aren't Memphis. Whew. Be thankful.
