Lightning has done a lot for me in my life including ruining a few laptops. It has never made me $50,000 richer though which doesn't seem fair since that's what just happened for a St. Clair, Missouri lady.

The Missouri Lottery just shared a shocking press release today and I mean that in the most literal sense possible. It's the story of a woman who's name has not been officially released yet, but her interesting story has. During a recent thunderstorm, lightning became quite fierce. The 300 million volts of electricity in the sky inspired a stop.

There were two lightning bolts that both hit at the same time right next to me,” the winner recalled. “I told my husband, ‘I don’t want to drive into that storm.’

So she and her husband stopped at a convenience store...On the Run, 1445 N. Main in St. Clair, Missouri...and bought a lottery ticket. The Missouri lottery added the happy news:

Her ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the Powerball, to win a $50,000 prize

Her grandchildren appear to be the ones who are going to benefit from these newfound winnings. And to think it's all because lightning made her too afraid to drive.

Thanks again, lightning, for ruining my laptops years ago. Still waiting for my $50,000 from you.

Lightning Facts vs Myth
