Video Shows Hurricane-Force Winds Pounding Springfield, Missouri
We knew that severe storms would impact Missouri yesterday and today and that has proven true. New video shows hurricane-force winds that impacted the Springfield, Missouri area today.
Fox Weather confirmed what many of us already knew. Extremely powerful storms damaged many homes in the Springfield, Missouri area Tuesday with more than 41,000 being without power for a time. They say that confirmed winds topped 91 mph at one point.
This video just shared by Road Life on YouTube shows torrential rains and destructive winds that happened as a tornado warning was ongoing.
91 mph winds would equal a high-end category 1 hurricane if they were sustained. Fortunately for Springfield, Missouri, these storms were moving quickly and these conditions were not long-lasting.
Yesterday, parts of Missouri saw tennis ball-sized hail and storms are expected to continue to affect the southern parts of Missouri today as they move across the Midwest.
Storms also impacted other parts of Missouri Tuesday including Potosi.
Is Missouri now the new Tornado Alley?
There is evidence that's been shared by Accuweather and others that Tornado Alley which was traditionally thought to be Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas now includes Missouri and even parts of Illinois as both states now register the highest number of tornadoes during the Spring months. It's provable with data that Tornado Alley really has moved eastward into Missouri and Illinois and today's storms are even more proof.
