Bryon and Michaela immediately knew they weren't dealing with a human being. Strange sounds outside their rural southern Illinois home led to an encounter with what they describe as a 'skinwalker' that tried to enter their home in the most sinister way.

This is quite a story shared by Byron and Michaela who call southern Illinois home. Their encounter was featured on an episode of These Woods Are Haunted on the Travel Channel.

Their first night where they encountered this strange creature began with growling outside the home and tapping on the wall. Their dog Cicero was also terrified. Their fears exploded when the creature then began mimicking the voice of loved ones demanding that they let it in.

They hid in the house all night and the sounds and voices finally stopped when they sun came up. When they told their dad what had happened, he dismissed it as their wild imaginations.

The next night, it came back...and this time their dad also experienced the sounds, growls and tapping. Eventually the creature started banging on the door. Their dad reluctantly opened the door to confront whatever was trying to break in and came face-to-face with a huge hairy beast which went from standing upright to walking on all fours and then it ran back into the woods.

The family had Navajo ancestors who told them they were dealing with a 'skinwalker'. After the direct confrontation, the beast never returned. However, the questions about what this Illinois family experienced those nights remain unanswered. Was it really a beast out of Navajo legend or something else? Whatever it is remains in the southern Illinois woods.

The summary of their episode featured during season 3 of These Woods Are Haunted starts at about the 3:30 mark in the Travel Channel video.
