There has been a huge shift in the weather direction for Missouri and Illinois and it appears that both states will end 2024 with a bang of storms, but not of the snow variety.

One of my favorite weather follows (which I highly recommend) is Ryan Hall on YouTube. Ryan is not a sensationalistic guy who's trying to imagine outrageous storms just to get traffic. I've found his outlooks to be very measured and conservative. He just looked at the end of 2024 and saw what appears to be an explosive weather system developing.

Here's what he's watching. On Sunday, December 29, Missouri and Illinois will be right in between two wildly differing weather factors - warm air to the west and cold to the east with a push of colder air coming in from the north.

That will put Missouri and Illinois in an area where he believes a mid-latitude cyclonic system could form bringing severe weather to both states. By the time we reach the afternoon of Monday, December 30, the models show volatility over nearly all of Missouri and parts of Illinois.

That chance of moisture and storms carries over to New Year's Eve, too.

New Year's Day, January 1, storms possible in Illinois, too.

As of the date of this writing, we're over 300 hours away from this potential storm system happening and that's only a chance as models can and do change. Ryan offers that warning also and I'd highly recommend watching his explanation about why he's anticipating storms to end 2024 for both Missouri and Illinois.
